I have decided to unfollow /founders (one of my favorite channels) due to multiple uninteresting and unrelated announcement notifications.

That channel seems like full on spam right now lol. And can’t even post in it without permission

classic example of bad channel management, further amplified by the gated nature of channels. net negative for farcaster when it happens to a large one.

@dwr.eth I have my doubts on announcements, never been happy receiving one and often felt pissed due to mods misusing them. what problem were they supposed to solve? I don’t see any upside in the long term

Adding “Turn off announcements” here might be good enough to prevent unfollows for now

imo, announcements should be an opt-in broadcast group chat where only mods have write permissions. not to be mixed with the follow mechanic.

you can then prevent unfollows due to bad management, solve the spam issue and leverage / improve existing infra at the same time.

technically yes, but I would expect most users to still unfollow as "turning off announcements" is unintuitive ux.
