About to step on the plane for the first time since our daughter became a toddler. What’s your best tip/trick for managing the flight?

This. Maybe prepare them for weird/loud noises before the flight (make noise, then laugh at it or sth similar). If you do headphones, try to see how they react with noise cancelling headphones. Plenty of distractions (children books, tv shows on phone or similar (if you do that)).

Tbh we’re bringing a couple of shoes predownloaded just in case. We don’t anticipate needing it for the flight, but will consider it as a backup plan

I know screens/phones/tablets are... a dividing topic among parents. I don't judge people who do it, or think that people that strictly don't do it are too strict. I tried to keep my kids from it, but had it, as you say, as a backup plan. I have never given them (when they were toddlers) my phone or a tablet to watch a show or "keep them quiet" in a public place. The only exception was when we were in an emergency room with them. I have not boarded a plane with them (not as toddlers), but I think I'd like to spare 200+ other people in the plane the headache, and yeah, turn on the phone with an animated show the kids like, in case all else fails (if I would decide to do that, I think having a pair of NC headphones would be just increasing the level of comfort/distraction for the kids). Good luck, and safe travels!
