It’s been a year today since russians killed one of my favorite Ukrainian poets. Next month, the new book by a Ukrainian writer I deeply admired will finally be released. She was killed by a russian missile a year and six months ago. An incredible children’s writer was tortured, killed, and thrown into a mass grave in russian occupation 2 years and 8 months ago. Another poet I truly admire is currently fighting on the frontlines. I’m buying all of her books to support her and truly hope she stays alive. Years from now, I’m sure people will once again claim that Ukraine simply doesn’t have “good literature” and writers conveniently forgetting that it’s because this genocidal evil empire won’t leave us alone and keeps killing off every writer we actually have. History is repeating itself, generation after generation just in different form. (For those who want to learn more, google The Executed Renaissance).
