the new channels remove the little accessibility warp once had for the everyday user as a new user, i can no longer join warp & simply cast in any topic of my interest… now, on top of paying the registration fee, i must also (in most cases) pay a monthly channel subscription… no new users will deal with this; it was hard enough to get them past the $5 data fee the issues we’ve had with “cabals” & “it” crowds are now 10x more divisive & exclusionary & immediately work against new users on top of these channel subscriptions adding friction, they force you to pay (in many cases) the /owner/ of the channel via their hypersub now this owner may or may not have any experience or expertise in the channels topic at hand more likely than not, they were just the first ones to want to talk about it on warp - it’s just an interest… so why make these people god? it doesn’t matter if it’s a minimal cost, new users won’t pay 10-15 individual subscriptions to access channels of interest

1) this is just another basil rant 2) i understand channel creators pay to create them & in most cases must dedicate time to moderate them 3) i hope im wrong—i just can’t see how this makes the app any better for new users (tho i see how it may make it better for existing ones)

I actually think this is a valid concern / opinion and isn’t just a random complaint. @dwr.eth any thoughts on this re: new user onboarding? I like the new updates a lot. I like how the new UI is and the spam reduction. But also I’m in pretty much every channel so I’m not experiencing the gating.

We can make the experience better for folks who are here or make easier onboarding for "the masses" Tried 2 with hashtag style channels, trying 1 As god, I appreciate it v much Def right about me just being early but the social recognition has value on its own from being an active fan, true experts aren't here, they're out doing the deal with their expertise Ever notice how the devs with real dev jobs don't cast on here? (except @sdv.eth God bless him) They're happy with their 200 follows and pay

New users or those without channels are rendered near invisible as well - casts without channels, low visibility except to the followers that you don’t have yet. And your replies are hidden under “show more replies“ so good luck getting new followers.

Good points Basil It's getting harder for new users to grow in this space each day Dan pointed out that casting in the home feed is a way but how a new user can be seen by casting in their feed with no or a few number of followers? They probably gonna labeled as spammers too!
