Really enjoying this book so far. Great introduction to Jung's ideas regarding the human psyche. It also goes into some detail regarding Jung's relationship with Freud and their ultimate breakup. Personally, I don't think Jung and Freud were good for each other. On one hand, Jung was a very free and creative type whereas Freud stuck rigidly to his psychosexual theory at all costs. Both of them were very excitable and somewhat melodramatic people. In the end, it was a flashy and passionate friendship that inevitably became quite toxic.

jealousy made things toxic jung deeply admired and respected Freud, even when he disagreed with him. but tension grew not just from intellectual differences, but from envy. Jung was married to a wealthy woman, which afforded him a lifestyle most psychologists of the time couldn’t dream of. his privileged position stirred quiet resentment among some of his peers including Freud.

Very interesting. Didn't know Jung was so well to do. I think their breakup was still mostly due to their personality types.
