"Blurring the boundaries between living and consuming in this way transfigures every part of our lives — the tragedy, the hardship, the joy — into something to be watched and commented upon. Imitated but never empathized with." "We are not in a garden like I am in my dreams. We are in a place where entertainment has become the living and those human qualities that were once beyond commodification — attention, creativity, empathy, to name a few — are now capital." a very good essay on the trouble with content and becoming it in this situation we've ended up with. it's important to be aware of who actually benefits the most from such systems so we don't lose ourselves in the process https://internetbedroom.substack.com/p/against-content

read this . thank you for sharing . mostly agree with the writer in terms of her opinion and also enjoyed how she framed it with various stories . it is not unfamiliar territory for me . now want to read the essay by Susan Sontag . recall reading some of her work back in art school . need a re-fresher . in general there are no easy answers to our current situation . it does feel like a prison .

it's been a while since i've read sontag as well (⌒_⌒;) the last few links i've shared were about quitting or escaping the prison but i hope there's a better way. bc as i mentioned before, the type of prison we're dealing with is one that spreads into every day life as well, especially if unchecked

have read some books recently and not so recently as well as a slew of articles on this topic and similar . 'How to do Nothing' by Jenny Odell 'Everyday Utopia' by Kristen Ghodsee currently reading 'Less is More' by Jason Hickel (although this addresses a much bigger topic but it's all connected) . usually the solutions involve putting down the device, going outside and connecting with people locally . do find that when out and about doing stuff with like minded folks that am at my best . but its not an easy place to get to .

not sure if u read this link but it's more about how disconnecting is good but not a true escape when everyone else is still plugged in and being shaped by it, which bleeds into all areas of irl https://warpcast.com/riotgoools/0xb54d857e

read your cast just not but have not read the attached article yet . agree that these relationships shape us and that there are better ways to interact and help others change . have failed in this somewhat . for example learned that on X one can use lists to avoid algo driven feed . so built lists and this works really well . but tried to explain to a lot of good people who were obviously getting a lot of grief from their home feed and don't think even one person took this advice . months later they are still upset over something someone posted . so thinking there's something deeper that needs to shift here . on here don't hear so much so perhaps this platform is a bit better with these issues . just an example .

i tried to do list-only on there but it didn't work for me. all the other stuff still found ways to bleed in and even the ppl i put on lists were influenced by the rotten decisions being made at the top. in the end, quitting the platform was the only way for me. i just felt like my time was spent better elsewhere ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

hear you . it still happens sometimes that see the home feed . guess just practiced 'glazing' where if it was not related to art or people was familiar with would just ignore it . recall a time when felt the need to respond to stuff . after a while realised how much that was kind of pointless and stopped . just found that could listen to the intuition on this . lucky me . 😄
