"Blurring the boundaries between living and consuming in this way transfigures every part of our lives — the tragedy, the hardship, the joy — into something to be watched and commented upon. Imitated but never empathized with." "We are not in a garden like I am in my dreams. We are in a place where entertainment has become the living and those human qualities that were once beyond commodification — attention, creativity, empathy, to name a few — are now capital." a very good essay on the trouble with content and becoming it in this situation we've ended up with. it's important to be aware of who actually benefits the most from such systems so we don't lose ourselves in the process https://internetbedroom.substack.com/p/against-content

read this . thank you for sharing . mostly agree with the writer in terms of her opinion and also enjoyed how she framed it with various stories . it is not unfamiliar territory for me . now want to read the essay by Susan Sontag . recall reading some of her work back in art school . need a re-fresher . in general there are no easy answers to our current situation . it does feel like a prison .

it's been a while since i've read sontag as well (⌒_⌒;) the last few links i've shared were about quitting or escaping the prison but i hope there's a better way. bc as i mentioned before, the type of prison we're dealing with is one that spreads into every day life as well, especially if unchecked

have read some books recently and not so recently as well as a slew of articles on this topic and similar . 'How to do Nothing' by Jenny Odell 'Everyday Utopia' by Kristen Ghodsee currently reading 'Less is More' by Jason Hickel (although this addresses a much bigger topic but it's all connected) . usually the solutions involve putting down the device, going outside and connecting with people locally . do find that when out and about doing stuff with like minded folks that am at my best . but its not an easy place to get to .
