What would it take to see Farcaster among the top Social Media apps? TikTok gained popularity by recommending videos based on users' viewing habits, language settings, location, and preferred hashtags. But Farcaster algo isn't that catchy. The content feels too random and not personalized. Yet we can see that social media habits can change fast. So, what would it take for Farcaster to go beyond crypto natives?

tiktok has short video content, easy to engage, easy to share, no need for any specific knowledge to scroll to another video farcaster can be compared to twitter in that diagram, the content type is different, requires some time to engage with and most of it, as of today, requires crypto knowledge to understand + there's a lot happening (connect wallet, frames, channels, tokens etc)

Imo, the protocol and crypto elements would need to be 'invisible' for DAU's and allow for uniquely differentiated apps to emerge (probably already possible). I'd guess the toughest part there (other than getting in front of folks) is shaping the "mullet" in a way that maximizes value-creation/capture, while having a trivial learning-curve.

Most new successful social apps have catalyzed a new consumption behavior (feed, ephemeral messaging, short form video, etc) I think Farcaster is doing this with frames and tokens to some degree but we haven’t seen the right design or combination that breaks out Maybe we will soon bc there’s a lot of experimentation and people building out apps on top of farcaster

First, Farcaster should focus on attracting crypto users, especially from Crypto Twitter where Twitter’s recommendation algorithm excels. Providing more firsthand project information and updates from KOLs is crucial. like users interested in the Base ecosystem would find Farcaster useful for updates. Additionally, innovative socialfi apps on Farcaster could also draw more users. Attracting non-crypto users is challenging due to competition with Twitter's large user base, and even Meta's Threads has faced difficulties in this regard. Farcaster needs to be inclusive, creating inviting spaces across different channels and curating content that users enjoy. Improving user retention brings us back to the recommendation algorithm, with initiatives like OpenRank making strides in this area. Farcaster’s open, decentralized database is ideal for experimenting with recommendation algorithms and applying them to various clients. nit picking, but Farcaster is a protocol. Warpcast, Supercast, etc are apps built on top of it. personal take on going mainstream, it will take: 1. Influencers and creators willing to “own” and fairly monetize their online presence 2. More apps built on top of Farcaster social graph (distribution) 3. Frictionless onboarding to crypto & earning their first tokens instead of buying it

To get to the top it has to be addicting or break rules, like use massive marketing campaigns over the world at size of coca cola. Farcaster has no ads which is a big thing by default + as a creator and even viewer you can get paid in tokens for just being active - insanely easy on here vs all other platforms

How much of TikTok do you think is algo vs providing a suite of tools making it super easy to make videos? Instagram same thing made it easy to be artsy photographer. YouTube edit, cut, thumbnails Lots successful social media broke out bc they solved a unique problem for consumers and introduced tools to solve it
