Are standups archaic for small (remote) teams? Increasingly feel like a one weekly call is good and allow async for the rest of the week + tooling to keep everyone in the loop

Any input on how to make work more pleasant for everyone is appreciated

I think standups are good for small teams in building phase. 

Sometimes, working remotely have some setbacks that knowing you have a standup to give feedback later keeps you on your toes. 

However, in the long run, one call a week makes sense.
