obsessed lately with the idea that searching for solutions is against human nature and everything we have on the table right now is the result of this mindset, where solutions and results became the goal, while life itself has nothing to do with that.

I have noticed this for a while now, explosion of self help books, couches. Extreme need to optimize everything, eventually everything is optimized except for a mental mindset which gets depressed. Many people overoptimized and lost the sense of enjoying the moment.

I'm guilty of over optimising. To the point that there would be no exceptions and things had to be strictly done a specific way. This all affected me in different areas in life too and since then took a more laid back approach. Set aside all these self help books.. There is no one size fits all solution

Thanks for sharing. This is so ubiquitous. I can’t say I ever fully confined myself to the cages due to the crazy living I always lived which is not good in another ways, but I have seen this, felt the desperation with people close to me. Even depression. I am glad you harmonized. I do fear the next stage of this with AI infinitely boosting the opportunities for optimizations

It's definitely not healthy if done to the max, and depression becomes more likely. That's true. With AI or even without it, it still gives people the sense that you are never enough. That you no matter what, you will always have to optimise and improve something. To what extent? To what purpose? On a more positive thought about AI, it could do some of the tedious tasks and help us with comminicating better with other humans and enable us to live a life that is fuller of meaning.
