Ojai, CA feels like fertile ground for starting a cult

Yes, and Joshua Tree but also America in general. I think Americans are some of the most susceptible people in the world

Yes, I do feel like America is susceptible because of the gaping spiritual hole that doesn’t get filled with consumerism / and increasing apathy towards religion. Add that to the carte Blanche nature of America; manifest destiny being only possible because of its history of wanting to erase its own history

America to me feels like that friend who is kind of toxic but also takes risks and does cool new shit recklessly so you kind of let it go. Pros and cons

Is there a way to get the pros without the cons?

Sometimes it looks like “Physics of the Observer”: do cool shot only when someone’s looking (and usually paying). Lacking in Loving.

I’m definitely on taking cool shots only hang That being said; yes there seems to be a theatrical element, and the facade comes down quick for anything that doesn’t need it - many things are about, how does this improve my bottom line individually

It looks like some societies have optimised quick bucking. And sold the idea one can become (a financial) Mozart, Einstein or Norvig in less than 10 years.

I don’t think it’s just about society deciding to optimize but more often than not it was tied to land (manifest destiny etc) and being able to capitalize on what others had not yet capitalized, more opportunities, less competition and just less regulation, laws, history, religion etc

Rather than a society decision, it looks more like a consequence. And indeed, next land is Space.

I don’t think I like space exploration but that opinion is loosely held. It’s just because people are suffering on earth right here right now. The wealth hoarding billionaires could fix much of it in two snaps without feeling it. Fix the problem and then ‘Murika can get its toys back

But what is the difference when we already know the consequences to our choices.
