What’s the counter point to @altimor’s take that there’s no real adoption of crypto? Sorry but it feels true that the only adoption has come from technical ppl and speculators whereas normies were using Amazon, Google, Salesforce, etc much earlier — and at the very least the use cases were more clear

Compared to internet I feel crypto is still in a pre-browser era . Before browser internet was mostly used by techies and nerds . What’s the browser equivalent for crypto ? I don’t know but feel better wallets + better abstractions (securing seed phrase is not for Mormons) will usher more adoption.

I think he approached crypto from the point of "cryptocurrency," but "crypto-computers" is where it gets interesting.

Amazon, Google, Salesforce etc. were all built to solve clear problems using technology. Crypto so far is technology created in a vacuum looking for a problem

What if speculation IS the adoption? The human impulse to gamble is strong.. https://i.imgur.com/YwQUpjU.jpg

I like to keep perspective with crypto. A fundamental shift on scale of the invention of agriculture. Removing Trust as the bottleneck to scale. To take advantage of this tech requires ambition that we’re not used to. I’m going to invent a country Vs faster money transfers. Where change in like 5 years is a bit f

One counterpoint r people buying my NFTs 🥰 Payments and assets on the web is literally the major use case for crypto Web2 commerce couldn’t have happened without SSL, first Gen crypto with market adoption Web3 is basically applying more CS techniques on the web to distribute and secure value

I think it makes more sense to compare crypto to an infrastructure project such as IPv6 - which is now 30y old and 40% adoption.

The tech is still very rudimentary so yes, it's mostly adopted by tech ppl. The counterpoint is pretty simple though. We're moving towards a digital world => needs digital ownership => needs trustable db tracking digital ownership. It's pretty much inevitable.

ETH is a credible neutral platform. It implements axiomatic legislation. Why bother with EU GDPR law when in no-EU? EIPs are international standards rejecting individual jurisdictions. ETH (opposed to FB) is the platform we deserve https://proofinprogress.com/posts/2022-03-11/ethereum-is-the-newsfeed-we-deserve.html

NFTs as financial instruments for accumulating liquidity through fundraising as a security instead of relying on copyright is transforming the music industry today. See Spinamp and musicos https://proofinprogress.com/posts/2022-05-27/ceci-n-est-pas-une-non-fungible-token.html

Smart contracts are executed in a different way than e.g. a script on Azure. Tornado Cash or stablecoins are examples, ENS & apps needing credible neutrality. As a Solidity dev, it‘s clear that there are use cases. Also https://proofinprogress.com/posts/2022-02-28/smart-contracts-are-programmable-commons.html

Crypto adoption still in infancy. Money use case more relevant + obvious if you don’t live in a developed nation w/stable currency. Stablecoins have a shot at global mainstream use case but needs reg blessing (trust) for widespread merchant acceptance.
