lovely article and good advice on targeting innovators when launching a new product. i gave similar advice to a friend i spoke to earlier today about a new service he's launching. a follow up question for @jonathancolton: what strategies have worked for you in the past for finding innovators and building a relationship with them once you've found them?

Great questions @humpty. Talking about the problem you're solving, and not so much the solution opens conversations with innovators. They're trying to solve those problems too and they want to talk about them as well. In fact, you might say they're passionate about solving those pains. Innovators like new ways to solve problems and want to be the first to try something new before anyone else, even if it's not fully baked. These are some identifiers of innovators. I find that connecting with innovators is easier than with others because they are open to new ideas and willing to explore possibilities. These connections typically begin with a mutual enthusiasm for tackling a common challenge and working together to develop solutions, but they deepen through collaborative efforts. The key element is teamwork; rather than seeing them as customers or beta testers, they should be regarded as partners in the process, necessitating a change in mindset.
