I don’t know who’s in charge of Farcaster rewards but I casted a few weeks back that I wouldn’t be ranking higher and now you’ve gone and made me look like a liar. Honestly, I’m grateful to participate in this social experiment we call Farcaster and build cool sh*t with friends. The money is just icing on the cake.

Oops, I just got around to publishing the Early Morning Crew newsletter from my conversation with @treegirl back on May 21st We debated the (then recent) announcement of Farcaster Pro, creating the WeChat of crypto, and the inevitable demise of channels as we know them. We've gotten a lot more information about channels since then, specially from my conversation with Dan over Official Channels Day. But many of the questions we asked remain unanswered. Will Farcaster be able to keep its authentic vibe while growing? At the usual coffee spot and struck up a conversation with the barista about a pin he was wearing (letterboxd app logo) and went deep into why he’s a fan of the app, his mini meltdown when met the founder in his coffee shop, and receiving the pin from him as a gift. What struck me most was how simple he sold the app to me: why he uses it, who else should use it, and what makes him keep coming back to it. TLDR; he’s a movie fan, loves learning about how movies work from industry people on the app, and making friends along the way. He mentions that industry folks regularly engage with fans giving them behind the scenes details about movies they’re working on. This makes the app THE destination for people who want to be in the know—and converts users into superfans along the way. This reminded me of my conversation with @dwr.eth last week and his posts about Farcaster being the destination for crypto fans. I’d love to see people talk about Farcaster this way too.

ICYMI @dwr.eth dropped tons of alpha on the Official Channels Day livestream It’s clear he recognizes channels are a valuable community building tool on Farcaster. However, he believes discovery and retention aren’t working well with the current model. He enthusiastically shared his thoughts on how LLMs could help surface conversations via topics which could then be used to drive engagement to likeminded people in subgroups and communities. He acknowledged the challenge is unlearning old models and behaviors, helping people on Farcaster feel as part of the process, and moving forward together. Do you think AI can help us innovate new models for engagement or are we better off with human curated experiences?

Thank you to everyone who participated in Officials Channel Day yesterday, and the week leading up to it. We certainly made an impact on the conversation around channels. Since announcing OCD on June 1st there was a 4x increase in "channels" conversations, and over 200 people celebrated their favorite channels and channel members by using the Official Channels Day tag. It is clear that many of us have found our cozy corners on Farcaster, and channels are a big reason why. LFGrow! Insights from @buoy
