When I say it's a war, people think I’m speaking hyperbole. They reason, "Wars have armed forces, guns pointed at civilians, innocent people harmed physically and/or financially." Read what is happening and try to tell me that it is not a war. https://forum.torproject.org/t/tor-relays-artikel-5-e-v-another-police-raid-in-germany-general-assembly-on-sep-21st-2024/14533

I agree but not every legal move is the same as the other one. It is one thing to be a blind node operator, it is another to be a kleptocrat profiting from and facilitating law breaking. Politics is the war of ideas; we have to be clear about our ideas and not be reactionary.

I have had a tendency to delay my opinions on situations until facts are clear. Tornado Cash is one of those grey circumstances that originally I leaned extremely pro-TC, until the damning evidence stacked up on them regarding their conversations with investors (who told them not to do KYC), and the optionality of provenance. While I'm not pro-KYC as those requirements are often huge liabilities and are not crafted with privacy in mind, I am pro-privacy-preserving-compliance, which is a hard nuance to state succinctly. The warring factions in this battlefield like in any war have different interests, but there are actions explicitly on putting an end to privacy, free expression, commerce and association which appears to be a shared goal by many nation state factions, and those rights are what I will fight to preserve (or re-establish) until my dying breath.
