Speaking fluent English is such a privilege in the present day. King of languages.

I speak a few other languages but I can’t say any of them are nearly as useful. Persian would’ve been useful 200 years ago but now it’s basically something to impress people at parties.

The fact that almost everyone in Europe seems to speak English has also demotivated me from learning other European languages even though some are beautiful on their own terms. I can understand French I just don’t feel a pressing need to finish studying it.

I find it interesting because I've always heard English is the toughest to learn. I speak English natively, but when I learned Spanish, I remember thinking "Wow, this makes a lot more sense."
