I’m a young millennial: I was in 2nd grade in westchester. I remember class ending early and my mom picking me up, which was strange because earlier she had left for work on the metro north. Turns out she saw the planes go by on the train and it turned around mid-route. My dad came home later; he had already been in the city and it was impossible for him to get back quickly bc they shut down train service. My parents tried to keep us from watching the news, but we went out on our boat into the Long Island sound the next day or so, and I can still see the smoke masking the entire city so clearly. I also remember my classmates whose parents were working in the towers and the memorials the followed. I work so close to ground zero. I ran by yesterday to pay my respects and it reminded me of the importance of choosing love over hate ❤️
