Well. Hopefully he won't be able to do too much damage.

He really began his rise to notoriety in the Trump world by staffing for Devin Nunes and playing a big role in defending Trump from the Russia investigation. Then he was going to be made the FBI director leading up to 1/6 but Barr and Haspel (then CIA director) threatened to quit and got that stopped. But he's continued to be a big supporter of the 1/6 rioters and endeared himself to Trump by being yet another sycophant attack dog. Not to mention he's got very sketchy ties to China and Russia and had a part to play in the stolen classified documents debacle. 

So yeah, all around horribly compromised dangerous guy to be FBI director.
