Really not a crank, but I do view dystopia as the already existing framework between things Chokepoint 1&2.0 (unbanking politically unpopular ways of making a living, police asset seizure laws, ever increasing KYC real reporting conditions and real proposed changes, etc. And that’s just US. Imho this framework…1/2

This framework is only tempered because its application/enforcement is actually decentralized if you will, and CBDC would be a centralizing powerful tool not contributing to the possibility of, but leveling up the existing decentralized dystopia current state.

Everything you have said is equally applicable for the specific usecase quoted - USDT or USDC Indeed, a well-designed democratic CBDC using ZKPs will be a significant step forward over USDT or USDC status quo Crypto-native assets (not stablecoins) like BTC or ETH also useful in the rare worst-case scenarios
