SEC could approve spot Ethereum ETFs by July 4: report The Securities and Exchange Commission could approve applications for spot Ethereum ETH +0.76% ETFs as soon as July 4, according to Reuters, which cited anonymous sources. The SEC "could approve exchange traded funds tied to the spot price of ether as soon as July 4, as talks between asset managers and regulators enter the final stages, industry executives and other participants told Reuters," according to the report published Wednesday. On Tuesday, Gary Gensler, acting SEC chair, said the process for launching spot Ethereum ETFs was “going smoothly.” That same day, VanEck also filed a Form 8-A for its Ethereum ETF, appearing to indicate that the instrument could soon be trading on an exchange.

Can Layer-2 Gas Fees Go Higher Than Ethereum? You believed that we are on Layer-2 so fees will always be less than Layer 1 right? You are wrong. Layer -2 fees can go higher than Ethereum. But How? Fee is simply a function of demand for limited block space on a specific network. As seen in our last post, /base or any L2 has two components to the fees, L1 (security) and L2 (execution). When the demand on L2 spikes, the execution part can go higher to an extent that it becomes expensive than Ethereum. Has this happened ever? Yes, with Arbitrum. The Arbitrum Odyssey event saw a massive increase in user participation on the Arbitrum network surpassing fees on Ethereum. However the fees on base is too low and with the introduction of blobs, the probability of this happening is low. But even if it happens, it would be a good problem to have on base.

Paradigm releases production-ready Ethereum execution client Reth 1.0 Crypto venture firm Paradigm has rolled out its first production-ready Ethereum execution client developed in Rust, named Reth 1.0. The client will focus on delivering a stable Ethereum mainnet node and aims for high throughput performance in terms of RPC, synchronization and storage capacity. "After almost two years of development and a successful audit by Sigma Prime, we are finally releasing Reth 1.0, the first “prod-ready” release of our blazing-fast Ethereum execution client. We invite RPC providers and stakers to run Reth," Georgios Konstantopoulos, chief technology officer at Paradigm, said. An execution client is a software application that connects to the Ethereum network and executes the rules of the network. Being a production-ready client software means that Reth 1.0 is ready for use by developers or stakers in their production environments, where it will handle live transactions and operations.

Ethereum supply has gradually increased since mid-April, with Dencun's upgrade reducing competition for block space on the mainnet. The supply of new Ether is in its longest inflationary period since the merger in 2022, and the Dencun blockchain upgrade in March appears to be responsible, much of this inflationary activity can be attributed to the Dencun upgrade that took place on 13 Implemented in March, the upgrade introduced 9 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), including EIP 4844, which appears to be the main cause of inflation.EIP 4844 introduced blobs, a mechanism that allows transaction data to be stored separately and temporarily, reducing the fees paid for block data on Ethereum's Layer 2 networks. In addition, Dencun introduced the danksharding proto, where more efficient data was available for block space on the Ethereum mainnet, while this saw a drastic reduction in the cost of executing transactions on Ethereum layer 2 networks such as Abritrum and Optimism.

VanEck Officially Files Form 8A for Ethereum ETF VanEck has taken a significant step toward launching its spot Ethereum ETF by filing the necessary Form 8-A, indicating imminent trading potential. Bloomberg’s Eric Balchunas highlighted that this filing mirrors the procedures followed just a week before VanEck’s Bitcoin ETF went live, suggesting a potential early July debut for the Ethereum product. The progress in Ethereum ETF filings follows the SEC’s May approval of eight such products, sparking widespread anticipation within the cryptocurrency community. This development contrasts the drawn-out approvals and market uncertainties that plagued Bitcoin’s ETF launch, underscoring a possibly smoother path for Ethereum. Analysts are cautiously optimistic, with Balchunas sticking to a July 2 projection for the Ethereum ETF’s launch despite the SEC’s lack of clear guidance. This move could mark a significant milestone in mainstream acceptance of cryptocurrencies.

Ethereum Market Value to Realized Value (MVRV) Even though many have a very bearish view of Ethereum and the potential for an Altseason, if we look at Ethereum's on-chain activity, we can see a projection that is much "more active" compared to Bitcoin. This shows that Ethereum as a decentralized network has real functions and use cases. This shows that Ethereum can still be used as an option for accumulation considering that soon the Ethereum ETF will be traded. Source: Crypto Quant

Andrew Kang predicts a 30% drop in Ethereum's price due to the upcoming launch of spot Ethereum (ETH) ETFs. Currently at $3,410, Kang anticipates ETH falling to around $2,400 post-ETF introduction. Unlike Bitcoin, which has strong institutional interest in its ETFs, Ethereum's network cash flows have been weak, reducing incentives for ETH-to-ETF conversions. Kang suggests that Ethereum ETFs will attract only about 15% of the capital flows seen by Bitcoin ETFs, estimating approximately $840 million inflows for ETH ETFs versus $5 billion for Bitcoin ETFs. Despite differing expert opinions, uncertainties surround Ethereum's future as the launch of spot Ethereum ETFs approaches, potentially impacting investor decisions between Nvidia shares and Bitcoin.
