Deng Xiaoping's economic reforms lifted 800 million people out of poverty in China. Narasimha Rao's economic reforms lifted 500 million people out of poverty in India. These countries had entrenched bureaucracies that were hard to reform. Politicians who could maneuver these systems are among the highest impact people of the 20th century.

There was a time when pharma moved as fast as software. Here's the insulin production timeline: - 1920: initial idea - 1921: first test on dogs - 1922: first test on humans - 1923: scaled mass production in US Insulin was widely available in the US within the 4 years of the initial idea!

More thoughts: FDA was setup to regulate Pfizer and Merck. SEC was setup to regulate Goldman and Morgan. FAA was setup to regulate Boeing and Airbus. FDA is not setup to regulate a million bio hackers taking their health into their own hands. SEC is not setup to go after a million crypto holders. FAA is not setup to go after a million drone hobbyists.

Few weeks back, Mercury had to shut down accounts w/ owners in Nigeria, Pakistan, Ukraine because compliance costs were too high. It shows how much global economic activity is still untapped. So many businesses can't KYC, can't access stable dollars, can't access lending or capital markets.

There are a handful of categories in crypto that are $100M+ revenue businesses: - Exchanges - Wallets - L1s / L2s - Stablecoins - Liquid staking - Compliance & tx monitoring - RPC infrastructure - Oracle infrastructure Except the last two, Coinbase is in all of them.
