these issues are not bc of an unchecked border - the us border has numerous checks in place - it is about the existing immigration policy and how we process and manage migration, asylum requests, and labor demands

i get what you're saying and it does eventually lead to immigration - mostly what i'm suggesting is buzzwords ideally are avoided entirely because they all have potential to derail the conversation.

sure, unchecked border is a buzzword but i wouldn't call it a distraction given it leads us to actually talk about the border (which is part of immigration policy given its where immigrants enter America), whereas talking about racism and racists and whatever else doesn't lead us back to immigration

So what policy was Trump using while he was in office? Remember it wasn’t too long ago when this administration repeatedly denied there was anything out of the ordinary happening at the border, now it’s policy that’s hamstringing any efforts to reign in the numbers and orange man bad.
