2024 has been a challenging year for Luckson. Losing a close friend and coworker to violence in mid-August affected him deeply. Once always cheerful, he now moves quietly through his days, often lost in thought. It was Luckson who, on behalf of the family, had to go to the morgue to identify the body—a task that seems to have affected him deeply. I see a change in him, a lostness, and so I photographed him through this new prism of experience. I called this portrait “Cherry Blossom” as a symbol of my hope for Luckson, that soon spring will return to his life, bringing new hope and joy to his heart, which now carries such deep grief.
