Free tax prep software works best if you have one of a small set of fairly straightforward types of returns

If you want anything more complicated, it’s terrible  ime

also, this is not an either/or situation, it’s a both/and.

Any LLM will not be nearly as good as free tax prep software.

LLMs will do a heavy lift around any questions, but I’ll still use a mixture of CPA and TaxAct (the only non-windows software that’s also online only)

But bring on TaxGPT. I can’t wait to upload some files and let it whir and spin and spit out the results…
