whatever their friends are "playing". For our kid in 2nd grade, it was NitroType b/c someone's older sister had amassed a ton of points. Great execution on the game btw

At school, I was made to do BBC's Dance Mat Typing: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zf2f9j6/articles/z3c6tfr#zskfb7h This was decades ago but I recall it being fun and not too difficult. I think the thing that really cemented it, though, was sitting at computers for hours and typing stories I'd made up.

“Read, Write & Type” by Talking Fingers! My 1st grade teacher had everyone play this back in the day and it was insanely fun. https://www.talkingfingers.com/read-write-type/

For me it was StarCraft and AIM. I did high school in the late 90s, early 2k. I had done so many of those touch typing games, but only really got good at it when I needed to type fast for high pressure situations in games, and typing to friends all night. Unsure what the modern equivalent would be.

I learnt trying to talk fast to friends in early 2000s chat rooms. I don't know if kids still talk to eachother with a physical keyboard though. But emulating conversation speed on a keyboard was the key for me.

I'd say games are the best thing for teaching kids anything. I learned English from video games more than I did in school when I was a kid :)
