Hi @pstrawn! 11 year old wants to code. Mostly to build on Unreal engine. The issue is what he wants to build is level 9000. Where should he start? Also, favorite John Mayer guitar riff?

Oh man…that’s a great question. You want to balance the satisfaction of creating something cool with the importance of learning some fundamentals. I’ve only done a bit of Unity and Godot, so I’m not familiar with the Unreal tutorials. I will say my favorite beginner YouTube channel is The Coding Train. Dan Shiffman is the Bob Ross of programming lessons. He has a video game track that’s super cool. It’s all Processing and p5.js. Visual. Colorful. Animated. Simple game engine. I always recommend starting with that or CS50 depending on age.

As for Mayer…Slow Dancing or Gravity from Where The Light Is (I was there for it in 2007!). Good Love Is On The Way and Try from the live Trio album recorded in 2005. Neon for face-melting acoustic insanity. His Dead & Co versions of Althea and Franklin’s Tower and Deal. I’ve seen him live 36 times, so I could go on and on…
