My goal is to be emotionally uninvested in politics. I have my values and I believe what I believe but getting angry / sad / euphoric over any of it feels counter productive.

This sounds like true freedom. 

I once heard a big city mayor say that a politician’s job is to mirror a majority of the population. That means, pick the right party, pick the right platform, and say what needs to be said to get a simple majority vote.
