How do you decide which chain to build on?

Base is definitely the "go-to" nowadays, but why? It's not TVL because Arbitrum has a lot more and Base was the preferred long before it got to #2 in TVL. Users? Maybe but I don't see many solid stats backing that.

From my POV, it feels like its just vibes? But why? Doesn't it make more sense to do a thoughtful analysis of which chain is ideal for an app's needs?

Worth noting not a SINGLE response included the words “developer experience”, “user experience”, or “decentralized” 🤔

- if it’s EVM the DX is the same 
- it’s blockchain; there is no user experience, just garbage lol 
- no one ends up caring about decentralization 🫢

Chains are starting to differentiate more and more. The most obvious is anything ZK (zk sync does some cool stuff with how accounts work). Blast is another well known one with differences.

Yeah the OP stack is definitely the most consistent with mainnet

I probably should I have qualified that statement; most EVM chains the DX is the same. For example I can easily switch most of my apps between Base, Optimism, EthMainnet without any code changes except the RPC. That can certainly change as you go into some other L2s
