With an ENS name "<name>.eth" β is the ".eth" part referred to as the TLD? (analogous to DNS?) And if so, will there ever be a ".ens" or other TLD's released on the protocol the way DNS started opening up more TLD's over time?

Yes Probably not championed by Labs, but if the DAO unanimously wanted it then π€·π»ββοΈ (btw ENS supports all DNS names today, so you can use example.com. But this isnβt really minting a new TLD onchain - the source of truth is DNS)
