This may be the strongest case for authoritarianism: https://www.noahpinion.blog/p/how-liberal-democracy-might-lose Basically: the war for people's hearts and minds has no stable equilibrium except local hegemony of one dominant elite, much like (and for the same reasons as) what Hobbes pointed out for regular war.

He was raised In a liberal democracy that defeated authoritarianism yet 35% of his income is taken from a barrel of a gun to pay for socialist causes. Communism is dead? Poppycock. Capitalism and socialism don't exist. They're spooks. hence "hybrid". All that is are markets, and how freely you're allowed to use them A true Democracy means that the crowd can determine tax rate on market In practice we have criminal democracies where political elites choose the tax rate. all based on violence

oh capitalism exists all right. Since the French Revolution, the elites have been quite successful in accumulating capital and molding power structures to work on their favor. Plus maintaining a hugely successful ideology of morally superior democrat society vs "evil dictators" in their (loosely) Socialist govts.
