right now, the largest accounts—those with 300k+ followers—receive roughly the same amount of likes as accounts with 50k followers; this is a problem if we continue to add bots at current pace, there will be accounts here with 1M+ followers receiving <50 likes per cast if this happens, it will most certainly be the death of the network as a “ghost town” narrative will form & ultimately takeover too many games & protocols have succumbed to the same future not to make this the #1 priority right now so, fuck the dau figures; fuck the vanity following figures; we must kill the bots & cleanse the network imo, this becomes an existential risk if it’s not already

Do you have thoughts on how many real people are here?

It feels way lower to me too. I think the spam is getting better but I still struggle with a lot of random comments that seem like they aren’t from actual people.

Feels more like 50/50 on a good day, judging by the new followers I get. I think a block button would help with this. If the account is blocked enough times, then consequences. I would block all the bots to prevent them from responding again. Bots need to be fought on all levels.

it's rough. But it's the reality, and it feels kind of hopeless to fight it. Look at X, it's terrible there too. I am really not sure what can be done. (Maybe employ an LLM to check for bots?) BTW, some of accounts that look like bots are actually human farmers I think, so that makes it even more difficult

Human farmers will need to decide their futures then. If they implement a block button, I'm sure I'll block some humans but also I'm just not interested in that behavior. There are other use cases for a block button too. People steal my content all the time. I wish I could stop these people from seeing it. In general, if I was given the option, I'd would prevent a number of people and bots from having access to my account. Idgaf about follower count, I'm here for actual users.

Same. I would block people who steal my art liberally. I’m sure this is possible for clients but not for the protocol. It’s against the whole open and decentralized ethos but some days it sucks ;)

There are tons of things already breaching the ethos of "decentralization" already. IMO, this is for the overall health of the site. Idk if they'll ever do this, but I know it would help. When the users reach the pivotal points of negativity, Dan and company WILL revisit this idea. We're still in the honeymoon phase, but I wish they would consider it now as it would solve several problems.

I mint my death threats because they are hilarious, but one day it could get a little crazy.

I've already been there with twitter. It ain't fun, and it will get crazy. This is a beautiful bubble, but it can't stay like this forever 🫂🤍

Of course right now we're in a safe bubble, and it won't be like this forever, but we're not guaranteed to become Twitter! X is really a disgusting cesspool. Not gonna mince my words I'd argue Reddit, for example, is way better in those regards. Has it's own issues of course, and it's not the same product.
