True - he explains in the video that it was only part of his motivation

agree but this ain’t the way (nor likely the motivation behind the pivot)

this should be a wake up call to people in crypto but it likely won't

Doesn’t have to be one or the other though. 

Life is fluid, you can be into crypto and take time to experiment with AI, VR, etc. Or be focused on AI and take time to experiment with crypto.

His real mistake was labeling himself a “crypto” guy. Now he’s apparently making the same mistake with AI

I’m unironically considering the same partially for the specific reason you mentioned. Also, AI is going to be far more influential (and in some ways for more powerful) for society than blockchain, even when blockchain matures to a point where it’s widely used effectively and meaningfully.
