I love and appreciate the replies here! My take: I think this is a good step forward, but I wonder about the user and mod experience. If you're a new user, you sign up, find a channel you like and then wait for your membership to be accepted... until then, are you just posting to the timeline, channel'less? If you're a mod or owner (esp. of a massive channel), this feels like it could quickly become a ton of work + How do you know if they're good or bad? I dunno, just some thoughts...

I like them and I think they are simple to understand. They work great for channels like /purple who are membership based. I wonder what kind of membership software people could cook up to have a relatively open & free membership as long as you bring the vibes (ie not a bot or low effort poster).

Looking forward to a simpler, reverse chronological feed. I am optimistic about the memberships model because I feel like there's more accountability if you can lose a membership. Would like to have some sort of loyalty or rewards as incentives to participate

Perfectly fine as long as automod moderation can function as usual. I guess it will hide posts instead of liking them once the changes go live

My only sticking point is non-members not being able to request membership. I get that no one needs another inbox - but if someone is replying to casts consistently and not getting invited it’s just another “shouting into the void” experience. Maybe members could nominate new members so burden of finding new members is not all on the channel owners. https://warpcast.com/wevans247.eth/0xf80daa98
