One of my fears about becoming a parent is that I won’t be able to teach kids to be worldly, open minded, curious, critical thinkers, and kind to those who look and think differently than them/us. I honestly would rather them be contrarian than sheep; think for themselves, decide for themselves, and be their whole self. I grew up in a bi-cultural household. Parents are refugees from the Vietnam War and ended up in the US-Georgia. I had a “nanny” that was a different type of Asian from me. I also had a passport so every “break” in grade school we traveled internationally. My vivid memories are from those vacations. All that to be said is that I learned that the world was so much bigger than me and new people knew/learned different things than my parents. That’s earth shattering concept at like 8 yrs old. What was wrong or right? It’s made me a better human.

Thanks for sharing. Loved the point about international travel at a young age.
