Recently picked up an Eleiko IWF 20kg bar. 

Is there any more refined object in the history of design?

Up there with Braun hifi systems, OG ipod, Porsche 911.

It’s really the safety of the whole thing that amazes me.

Remove the inertia of the bar via needle bearings and then weightlifting becomes 10x safer.

Drop a 100kg bar from above, and so long as it doesn’t land directly on the crown of your head, you’re 100% ok.

Hahaha, I thought of picking up the generic aliexpress version of this but I might have too much dignity.

Had one during college/grad school when I was competing. I still miss it even though it would be overkill for what I do these days
