It happens when I view the group chat info on mobile

I think it's because you're fetching all the account state simultaneously rather than paginating

It shows my username + display name (presumably because it's cached), then quickly fetches the remaining users' info, and then crashes on fetching/rendering images

I think it only happens for massive gcs (the supercast one has 400+ people)

Yeah I'm not in that group but I'm in /success so I'm able to reproduce with that group. We definitely shouldn't be trying to render them all at once even if the response contains all of the data already (something else to look into).
