I wonder how much of that is pure business interest instead of good will, since they lost the hardware war and needed Android to be mainstream to have a chance to compete with Apple

Regardless 100% agree its much more open

android is cheaper too, one time payment $25 vs $90 yearly (in the past)

but being in their hands is just awaiting the day they choose to cancel your account with no explanations.. and have to start again.. centralization issues..
