Doesn’t mean that it won’t have a place or it won’t serve a purpose. I just think it will forever be treated as an alternative asset. If there’s ever a time in human history where it would become the default asset, some catastrophic event has occurred and it’s probably not the best way to live at that point

Hot take. I love crypto and what it stands for. But crypto will never be the mainstream asset we hope it’ll be because most people won’t vote to live in a world where that’s the default.

Not exactly. I think the fundamental issue with consumer crypto is too many solutions searching for a problem. Successful consumer products are always a solution that solves an existing problem.

The FTX shitshow will set crypto back a few years for sure. But it might not be such a bad thing because it’s like ripping off the band aid. Have conviction at the core of what you believe in will help shape the long view. The blockchain hasn’t failed us yet.

My board sense is that, more NFT projects will have no choice but to establish an off chain DTC business because the market is much larger off chain.

Wrote some high level thoughts in the other reply. But GMoney’s 9dcc is a very good example. GMoney is world class at marketing. He is telling a story about a fashion brand to his NFT community. The product today is a DTC tshirt.

That said, marketing is only great for user acquisition but not good for retention. So that’s why you see both put a lot of emphasis in community building. In addition to retention, a passionate community is word of mouth. Which contribute back to marketing and lower CAC.

Successful NFT projects and DTC start ups have one common thing they’re world class at, which is marketing. The underlying technology and logistic advancement is hard, but not a differentiator. *The brand* is the differentiator and the moat for both NFT and DTC companies.

At a very high level: NFT projects are great at finding funding, but terrible at establishing a business model. Most DTC companies have a hard time getting funded, but could be a great business model if LTV > CAC.

"Hakuna matata" is a Swahili phrase, meaning "no trouble" or "no worries". In 2003, Disney was granted a trademark protecting the phrase from being used. The choice is clear — Either protect IP at all cost or just cc0. Very bearish on projects that are in the middle.
