People 55 and older own 80 percent of the stock market. The top ten percent own 93 percent of the stock market. I think it's lost on the media and political class that the vast majority of the country just doesn't really care what's happening in the stock market.

It's true, many everyday folks are more focused on immediate financial concerns than stock market fluctuations. The media often focuses on the market, but it doesn’t always reflect the average person's priorities.
