this has happened to me. i hear it's because the ledger has battery problems and can die completely (haven't verified) - fortunately, i had my seed backed up, but i don't think ledger has ever been quality engineering and now its software and team are on a sharp downhill, too

Use a @safe.  It's by far the most under-utilized asset in EVM crypto.  Set up a 2/3 or 2/4 multi-sig. Incidents like this can be easily managed by simply swapping out the failed wallet for another. Can also help with estate planning, should you (God forbid) get hit by a bus tomorrow.
