become a mission focused DAO, the PR firm of crypto. public benefit over private benefit focus our efforts on attracting public impact projects like the playground, the school, skatepark & basketball court restorations, scholarships for high school & college blockchain developers translate the speculative fervor of crypto into real world impact

The problem with this direction is I don’t know why this makes sense as the PR firm of crypto. All of this could and have been accomplished with a regular charitable org. Question is — why nouns? What’s uniquely capable through nouns? I agree with the spirit of public over private benefit, but think there needs to be a unique twist that’s different from a regular old charity giving scholarships or slapping their name on a park.

I was a hater for a while but I’m now sold on supporting subcultures. Orgs that would otherwise be overlooked by traditional funding sources could come to nouns for funding. In return, these people become missionaries bc they are so thrilled this strange org took a chance on them. Public good in the sense of funding more orgs than individuals. But raw giving to charity (prop 1) or even making a park with nouns theme feels like a miss to me bc who cares? Someone else could have done that easily, and nobody on the receiving end ends up being 100x more excited about nouns as this weird group that actually gave them a bit of capital to go do the weird thing they wanted to do (curling club, smash as a forgotten pocket of esports, etc)

I think this is still public good. If done correctly, giving to overlooked subcultures encourages diversity of interests, plays into the crypto side of doing things differently, independently, against the grain. To be cheesy it’s “creating more smiles” in these subgroups that otherwise don’t really have a chance of anyone taking them seriously. (someone from nouns said something like this and I like it as a mission, not sure who to credit though)

great question the core of the argument is that by operating a decentralized, transparent democracy, Nouns is inherently charitable because it encourages civic engagement and shows that civic engagement is a worthwhile endeavor that can have positive impact. we’re pioneering models for how governance can work, and maybe even curating the next generation of political leaders if we’re participating in a democratic experiment, the question becomes what are we governing over and what are the outputs of that democracy? i’m biased towards IRL impact so i’m going to advocate for those things. my hope is developers like yourself could help shepherd public good technologies, (that are both the technical definition and in the spirit of the words,) through hackathons, school blockchain clubs, etc. i have some ideas about bringing govt budgets & economic data onchain but would defer to people who are actually deep in the world of code to make that push
