i stopped in at a curatorial space today, and learned some things about traditional indonesian textile: 1. no current indigenous fibres are used (nearly all imported cotton yarns) 2. there is no continuity of knowledge in natural dyeing 3. whole bolts of dyed and unpatterned cloth are rare 4. there is a yarn mafia controlling access to the best yarns

Not only yarn, every commodity has been mafia'd over here, it's impossible to grow unless you grease insiders' palm, if anyone says otherwise, it's time to check their motives and background
