I've been experimenting to figure out how to microwave short grain sticky white rice to have the same consistency as from the stovetop.

1. 1/2 cup rice and 1/2 + 1/8 cup water
2. Microwave 1st round for 2 min covered
3. Stir
4. Microwave 2nd round for 1.5 min covered
5. Sit for ≥10 min covered

*The times may vary with your microwave

To get the rice slightly softer I'm going to add slightly more water and slightly increase round 2 time.

The 1st 2 experiments I nuked the rice too long into a hockey puck for 10 min the 1st round, and then adjusted to 5 min, before finding success here at 2 min.

Yes they sell microwave ready rice. I like being able to take any regular rice and know how to make it in the microwave quickly.

i'd rather microwave rice than cooking it in a non-stick rice cooker
