I think Ethereum L2s should go this route and break the compatibility with the L1 in terms of managing on-chain state in favor of higher throughput and lower fees

For instance, the biggest change in Monad is not parallelizing the EVM, that was the easy part. The harder part was creating a new database format allowing faster and more-efficient access to state. This means that the state can significantly grow without degrading the performance of the chain nodes

One major bottleneck in the EVM is handling state and state growth. State is persistent and cannot be deleted (similar to 4844 bobs). Regarding Base transaction fees: they are high because the chain is at its target capacity (2x the throughput of the L1), but demand has increased dramatically. Data fees remain insignificant thanks to EIP-4844 blobs which are still far from capacity! So while "it could be worse..." what can make it better? (cont)

BitVM has little to do with that. The L2 architecture can allow that by forcing transaction inclusion on the L1. Stacks for example force the first execution of any relevant L1 transactions but the enforcing happens on the L2 stack

Taproot is the base of BitVM. so in principle, Taproot is enabling all these L2 innovations. Without MAST, P2TR all of this stuff won't be possible
