i've been comfortable spending anywhere between $50-175 on a traditional indian dress that i would probably wear 1-3 times before it goes out of fashion (or doesnt fit me anymore), but i refuse to spend more than $40 on a western dress that i would probably wear 10 times a year and more times than i can count before it goes out of fashion. make it make sense.

This is why there's a growing trend to rent Indian outfits rather than buying and keeping them in your wardrobe forever 🙃

i tried giving that a shot but it just felt very off to be renting clothes? i get that it's convenient for people with a low budget, who want to wear pricer things, but i dont want to add to the economy where im essentially being taken advantage of for having a lower budget? :p

Fair. It’s not about having a low budget though. I have friends who can very much afford to buy the dresses but choose to rent because the reality is that they’ll only wear them once (fear of being seen in the same dress 🙃) The rentals for these premium outfits don’t come cheaper either. They’re 30-40% of the purchase price. You can also do the other way round but you’ll probably lie to yourself that you’ll wear them again 😅

fair points. i dont care about being seen in the same indian outfit mulitple times though. as long as the outfit looks relevant for the occasion and fits (big problem lol)
