Portrait of a Herero Woman The Herero women of Namibia are known for their striking traditional attire, unfortunately a legacy of Victorian fashion imposed during the dark times of colonialism in the 19th century. Their dresses feature voluminous skirts, puffed sleeves. The distinctive headpieces called "otjikaiva," shaped like cow horns to honor their cattle-herding traditions and is one aspect of their culture that they could carry through the colonial era mostly untouched.
