(Not the same as wokeness being good, because anti-wokeness doesn't just fight wokeness, it also has many, IMO mostly bad, side effects)

Seems to me that wokeness vs anti-wokeness is a failure at synthesis. 
Modern wokeness can be seen as response to Right-wing dominance in economics & Left dominance in culture. 
It's hard for the Right to dominate in culture and for Left in economics, so result is reactionary Culture War

I’ve heard it said before that if you aren’t liberal when you’re young, you don’t have a heart, but if you aren’t conservative when you’re old, you don’t have a brain. Not saying I agree 100%, but clearl to me the left is swayed by emotion, even when irrational, and the right, by logic, even when greedy.

I mostly agree. I'd say the Right is more realist and the Left more idealist. We need both. Problem is the extremes, when idealists turn delusional or realists turn greedy or tribal.
