I heard on a podcast once some hunter say Koala’s taste horrific. Then everything clicked. Koala’s eat so much toxic leaves that they become toxic, and so predators avoid eating them. Evolutionary mystery solved. The fact they have to spend a lot metabolism against toxins is probably why Clamydia ravages them.

I was wondering. Australia is full of many things that could eat koalas, so it was always just a mystery for me. Thank you for putting this together! It makes sense now.

This has had me thinking all day about how koalas might taste if we forced them to eat some nutritious fruits and veggies 🤔
