Network States

The "network" in network state should stand for network effect, which is how all states form: they marshal resources created by network effects and maintain control of them.

Technology has created opportunities for new kinds of network effects and eroded old ones — implying that there could be new kinds of states.

How do you define a “state” here?

Usually there is a govt, laws, economy and borders. 

Geography can be thrown out as a limiting factor, so we just dropping borders?

Like in Euclid’s axioms if you drop the 5th you get a new landscape of possibilities.

yes the separation of Geography and State... is a part of it... a big part... just think of all the things that can be done online... still we have "the last mile" problem... what does the customer get for joining?
