The "network" in network state should stand for network effect, which is how all states form: they marshal resources created by network effects and maintain control of them. Technology has created opportunities for new kinds of network effects and eroded old ones โ€” implying that there could be new kinds of states.

Well said. It's amazing when you think of the possibility available to new states, when resources technology/blockchain provide are optimally utilized. Decentralized participation and collective intelligence is something I'm excited about Network (effect) States

How do you define a โ€œstateโ€ here? Usually there is a govt, laws, economy and borders. Geography can be thrown out as a limiting factor, so we just dropping borders? Like in Euclidโ€™s axioms if you drop the 5th you get a new landscape of possibilities.

Great point. My thought - why isn't the most direct path to Network States through companies like Meta, Amazon, etc that operate huge networks bridging the physical and digital worlds? Why is creating new states from scratch better?
